Historical & Biographical Context

Ameer-Ul-Momineen Hazrat Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s), also known by the honorific title Haider-e-Karrar and Abu Turab, is the root ancestor of the recorded Syed family lineage in this Shajjra archive. Born inside the Holy Ka'aba in Mecca, he was the cousin, brother, and son-in-law of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) through his marriage to Sayyida Fatimah al-Zahra (s.a). As the fourth Caliph of Islam and the first Imam, he is universally revered for his unparalleled justice, valor, wisdom, and eloquence as preserved in Nahj al-Balagha. He is the father of Hazrat Imam Hasan (a.s), Hazrat Imam Hussain (a.s), and Hazrat Abbas Alamdar (a.s). His holy shrine and resting place is situated in Najaf al-Ashraf, Iraq.
